Getting Into Stanford

Stanford university is set in the heart of beautiful California. Based in Palo Alto, Stanford's grounds are a throw from Silicon Valley and but a CalTrain from San Jose and San Francisco Bay. Stanford is revered around the world and boasts a stellar cast of alumni. These alumni have shaped the spheres of entertainment, politics and of course, technology.

Stanford's birth was inspired by the heart. Stanford was founded by railroad tycoon Leland Stanford after the death of beloved teenage son. Leland Stanford Jr. lived a tragically short life and passed away at the age of just 17. In his passing Stanford was born. Stanford's tradition begun on its first night. On that night, Herbert Hoover slept alone on campus. The young boy, enthused at the spirit of the institution, went onto become the 31st President of the United States. He would be followed by future Presidents, founders of the world's largest companies and Hollywood stars including Reese Witherspoon, Jack Palance and Sigourney Weaver.

Stanford's proximity to Silicon Valley is no idle coincidence. Silicon Valley is soaked in the tradition of Stanford and prospers from its alumni. Hewlett Packard, for example was founded by Stanford's very own William Hewlett and Dave Packard. Steve Jobs famously spoke at Stanford's 2005 commencement.

At this stage, you'll want to learn more about the Stanford admissions process. Just 7% of applicants to Stanford earn their rite of passage. Stanford admissions officials are looking for student's with a sparkle in their eye, on the cusp of producing something a little bit special.

A 4.0 grade point average and 2400 SAT are no assurance of getting into Stanford however. Stanford admissions are also looking for applicants who are well-rounded. As an applicant you'll need to demonstrate extra-curricular vigor too. Leadership roles in sports, participation in clubs and a unique 'spike' that sets you apart.

Are you an innovator? What's your passion? What do you aspire to become? Your Stanford application should be dripping with wanton potential.

We hope this brief foray into Stanford admissions has stoked the fires within. When we cast our eyes back into the experiences that fashioned us as a person, first we look to our parents.
